@Armen - Love that last line. They do say though "If you think you're enlightened, go and spend a week with your parents". Very true words :).

This is a very insightful post. I think these are all very sound tips for minimizing ego and cultivating positive energy in our self and in our relationships. I especially like your point about "react with fun." When we take people's egos with a light heart we very often disarm the other persons' "defense mechanisms" and they learn to lighten up too.

Really good post! A huge pleasure to read and a very helpful reminder.

Hi Richard.

Battling with the egos of others is something that isn't very appealing. Egos are like hard rocks that we can't do much with.

It's a good point here about not giving into their ego demands, as that then strengthens the source of the problem. A suitable way to respond is to indirectly show that their ego is having no impact on your action, thus negating any chance of them feeling like they overpowered you.

#7 there is pretty interesting because I'm pretty sure that would result in wanting to cancel spending time with the person. Spending time with folks with big egos is about as enjoyable as sitting on a cactus plant.

@Walter - Cheers for the comment mate, really appreciate it. It's great to be aware enough to intercept it before it controls you. It's a sign of huge strength.

These are pretty interesting tips. Actually, I have been doing some of this in dealing with my own ego. It works for me and I'm happy I'm able to intercept my ego before it controls me. :-)

@Hulbert - Thanks for the comment Hulbert, really appreciate it. I agree with not feeding it. It's an energy after all and when cut off from its source it is like a human without food, it will eventually die.

Hi Richard, nice post on ego. I, too, have a family member (relative) that has a huge ego. She likes to be right all the time, and turns small matters into drama.

I think one of the biggest ways to deal with someone who has a huge ego is just not to get involved in it. By not feeding the ego such as arguing, the ego eventually has nothing to feed off of and eventually wears out.

You also pointed out to have fun with it; I think this also works because usually when we discover something funny or humorous, things don't become as serious as they seem, and the ego goes away.
